Goodbye... We really hope to see you soon!

It has been an amazing summer for all involved. I am confident that everyone who walked through our school gates left us having tried many new things, developed tried and tested skills, and most importantly, had a huge amount of fun, all whilst developing our understanding of English. Another great day out!

Yesterday we took our students on two great excursions! In the morning, we split our groups into two. We did this so that our new arrivals got the chance to see the city of Chester. Chester is a great city full of quirky architecture and unique history, so we felt that it was a must see for all students who come to Discovery Summer Shrewsbury! The students had a walking tour along the city walls and there was time for shopping in the beautiful city centre. All the students were excellent and we had a great time. While our new arrivals went to Chester, the students who had already been went to Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo is one of the UK's leading zoos and is devoted to animal welfare and conservation around the world. It is home to lions, tigers, jaguars, elephants, rhinos, bears, cheetahs and chimpanzees to name but a few. Rounders

Rounders is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams. It is a striking and fielding team game that involves hitting a small, hard, leather-cased ball with a rounded end wooden, plastic or metal bat. The players score by running around the four bases on the field. The game is popular among Irish and British school children. Gameplay centres around a number of innings , in which teams alternate at batting and fielding. A maximum of nine players are allowed to field at any time. Points (known as 'rounders') are scored by the batting team when one of their players completes a circuit past four bases without being put 'out'. The bowler, or 'feeder', bowls the ball with an underarm pendulum action to the batter. According to Rounders England rules, the ball is deemed a 'good' ball if it passes within reach on the striking side between the batter's knees and the top of the head.
