Rounders

Rounders is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams. It is a striking and fielding team game that involves hitting a small, hard, leather-cased ball with a rounded end wooden, plastic or metal bat. The players score by running around the four bases on the field. The game is popular among Irish and British school children. Gameplay centres around a number of innings , in which teams alternate at batting and fielding. A maximum of nine players are allowed to field at any time. Points (known as 'rounders') are scored by the batting team when one of their players completes a circuit past four bases without being put 'out'. The bowler, or 'feeder', bowls the ball with an underarm pendulum action to the batter. According to Rounders England rules, the ball is deemed a 'good' ball if it passes within reach on the striking side between the batter's knees and the top of the head. Tennis Academy Overview by Head Coach, Simon Bentley

The Tennis Academy at Shrewsbury this year has been packed with a variety of students from complete beginners through to National standard players. I believe this year has had the highest number of elite players in Discovery Summer’s history. Training consisted of technical and tactical drills covering all the major shots, match practice and video analysis. At the end of every week a group tournament was held. The results are as follows; Week 2: Group 1 Winner-Alexandre Szturma Group 2 Winner-Vartan Seferyan Week 3: Group 1 Winner-Anastasia Artamonova Group 2 Winner-Fabian Osslund Group 3 Winner-Roxane Diesing Week 4: Group 1 Winner- Anastasia Artamonova Group 2 Winner-Marc Zieger All of the players were very keen and showed great enthusiasm to develop their skills. This years academy has proven to be a worthwhile experience for both players and coaches. Thank you to all involved!

Another great day out!

Yesterday we took our students on two great excursions! In the morning, we split our groups into two. We did this so that our new arrivals got the chance to see the city of Chester. Chester is a great city full of quirky architecture and unique history, so we felt that it was a must see for all students who come to Discovery Summer Shrewsbury! The students had a walking tour along the city walls and there was time for shopping in the beautiful city centre. All the students were excellent and we had a great time. While our new arrivals went to Chester, the students who had already been went to Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo is one of the UK's leading zoos and is devoted to animal welfare and conservation around the world. It is home to lions, tigers, jaguars, elephants, rhinos, bears, cheetahs and chimpanzees to name but a few. The students at the zoo were met by the students from Chester in the afternoon and both staff and students had a great time seeing the animals and listenin...
