Another great day out!

Yesterday we took our students on two great excursions! In the morning, we split our groups into two. We did this so that our new arrivals got the chance to see the city of Chester. Chester is a great city full of quirky architecture and unique history, so we felt that it was a must see for all students who come to Discovery Summer Shrewsbury! The students had a walking tour along the city walls and there was time for shopping in the beautiful city centre. All the students were excellent and we had a great time. While our new arrivals went to Chester, the students who had already been went to Chester Zoo. Chester Zoo is one of the UK's leading zoos and is devoted to animal welfare and conservation around the world. It is home to lions, tigers, jaguars, elephants, rhinos, bears, cheetahs and chimpanzees to name but a few. Tennis Academy Overview by Head Coach, Simon Bentley

The Tennis Academy at Shrewsbury this year has been packed with a variety of students from complete beginners through to National standard players. I believe this year has had the highest number of elite players in Discovery Summer’s history. Training consisted of technical and tactical drills covering all the major shots, match practice and video analysis. At the end of every week a group tournament was held. The results are as follows; Week 2: Group 1 Winner-Alexandre Szturma Group 2 Winner-Vartan Seferyan Week 3: Group 1 Winner-Anastasia Artamonova Group 2 Winner-Fabian Osslund Group 3 Winner-Roxane Diesing Week 4: Group 1 Winner- Anastasia Artamonova Group 2 Winner-Marc Zieger All of the players were very keen and showed great enthusiasm to develop their skills. This years academy has proven to be a worthwhile experience for both players and coaches. Thank you to all involved!

Capture the Flag & more Farewells

Yesterday we said 'Goodbye' to the Japanese group. Later the students played an outdoor game called 'Capture the Flag'. Two teams have a flag and the objective is to capture the other team's flag, located at the team's 'base', and bring it safely back to their own base. Enemy players can be 'tagged' by players in enemy territory and so these players are sent to 'prison' (photos above). They cannot be released from prison until they are 'freed' by a member of their team. Blue & Yellow teams
