On Wednesday, Discovery Summer welcomed some new arrivals.
We have new students from Italy, France, Belgium, Turkey, Russia and Columbia, making our summer school even more diverse and international.
Coming to a foreign country and a new school can be a scary thing for a new student, especially when your classmates have already been getting to know each other for a week. Because of this, we wasted absolutely no time in getting our new students involved with the fun and we are delighted with their response.
On Wednesday, English lessons were put on hold so our new students could meet the group properly. They had a choice of sports and arts activities including tessellate art and dodge-ball.
On Wednesday evening, our new students were introduced to their new groups and to the colour war! and what better introduction to have than a zombie night?
The aim of the game was simple, find the zombies, chase the zombies, catch the zombies, pin a sticker on the zombie. Most stickers wins.
Our teams had an hour to complete this undead challenge and they did not disappoint, beating back the forces of the underworld with ease. After the stickers were counted it was found that the blues had indeed landed more hits on our zombies and were tonight's winners.
Students were not the only new faces we have welcomed this week. We have also had the arrival of our first group leader, Jenne from Bologna in Italy!
Our cohort from Bologna have been excellent all round and we are very happy to have them here.
Jenne has been happy to lend her time to our other students and staff as well and we look forward to the days ahead!
Going into Thursday, it was business as usual here at Discovery Summer. English classes were back on for both our courses, which included preparations for the prestigious Trinity English test.
We also began a new programme of multi-activities and clubs which include American sports, park games, basketball, handball, nature walks and tie-dye workshops to name but a few.
Thursday's colour war took the form of the Mini-Olympics. Each group had to compete against their corresponding group in a series of challenges which culminated in another intense bout of tug of war!
Each team had their turn at victory but the Blues came out on top again, bringing the scores after the last two days to 6-4 in favour of the blues. Keep up yellows, you're getting left behind!
Today we have another excursion, this time to the historic city of Chester. Watch this space to find out what we get up to!
